Current Events

December 18, 20

My current thinking on the Fiscal Cliff is that President Obama wants spending more that the Republicans want tax cuts.  I think that Republicans could hold out for the Bush tax cuts and the debt ceiling limit.  The House of Representatives approves all spending and is controlled by Republicans.  Let it go over the cliff.  Then we will have a balanced budget when the debt ceiling limit is reached.

While current emotions say to ban guns in public places; data shows that almost 100% of the shootings have occurred at “gun free zones”.  The killers know that they can do their evil thing safely without opposition.  There was only one movie theater in Aurora Colorado near the shooter that was advertised to be ”gun free” showing Batman.  Other theaters allowed patrons to have guns.  Of course he chose the gun free theater to kill.

_________________________________________________________________

Mental health of shooters is a consideration in the shootings.  I think that some parents are too permissive with their children turning them into monsters.  Without discipline, they want too much and when they cannot get it, they turn against society and shoot it up.

__________________________________________________________________

The school shootings are very sad.  I have some comments here and in the guns page and education page.  My heart goes out to the victims families and friends.   I pray that they will find solace and that we will take steps to reduce these terrible events.  Unfortunately they cannot pray in their school as that is forbidden.  Is the environment in the public schools contributing to the problem?  Is the material taught or not taught a factor?  Should guns be restricted?

The election is over.  I did not win but I will continue this blog to share ideas with you on the current political scene.  I thank all my supporters and contributors and implore you to keep fighting for personal freedoms.  I will continue my efforts to have programs that appeal to all persons.  We are all or aspire to be Americans.

The Republicans did not win because they could not answer the attacks of the Democrats.  The Democrats had lots of vunerabilies but the Republicans chose not to attack them.  I was correct in that I said that a moderate Republican would not defeat a progressive Democrat.

A central theme that developed late in the campaign was the 47% that are receiving welfare payments and do not work.  Romney chose to ignore the 47%.  I do not do this.  I feel for the poor and oppressed and want to help them.  I believe that there is a better life for the poor than taking a government handout and will work to inprove life for all.

The strategy of putting people on welfare so that they will vote for you was formulated by Cloward and Piven in 1966.  See these links or goggle them.

During the four years I have been running for Congress, my vision of issues has greatly expanded.   I am doing this site to share my vision and to comment on current events.  Please feel free to add your comments.

My programs offer 100% pension and free health insurance.  I have penned two bills to be introduced in Congress that offer this.  Please see the tabs on Social Security and Money to see these acts

Feel free to comment on current issues as I will be; either to my posts or your concerns. I will try to answer your inquiries.

    • Pierce County area friends,

It is probably one of the most important issues on your Pierce County area ballot, the request to Approve Pierce County Charter Amendment # 40.
This amendment when approved, will make it harder to raise taxes in the future by requiring a 2/3 majority (5 votes) instead of the current requirement of a simple majority (4 votes) for all potential future tax increase that are the purview of the Pierce County council. To raise tax rates should be only done if their is a compelling requirement, so let’s make it tougher to raise taxes. All five Republicans on the Pierce County Council voted to put this amendment on the ballot (It passed 5 – 2).

We have about 200 “DICK MURI” for congress yard signs left to be placed in the yards of supporters. If you are willing to support our campaign with a yard sign, please respond to this e-mail with your address. I will have a volunteer deliver a sign. Great way to inform neighbors on who you support.

Also, when you vote and then mail in your ballot, within a few days your name is then subtracted on the mailing and calling list of most candidates. So, a great way to stop all that campaign mail and phone calls is to vote within a day or two of getting your ballot and mailing or getting it to a drop box. Most candidates will be receiving a daily list of those who have not yet voted and will continue to mail and call for support.

And if you need any ballot recommendations, just send me an e-mail and I am always willing to send you my thoughts!

It has been a long election season, a special thanks to everyone for your support.

  2. The most important fiscal issue of the day is the ability of governments to pay for their obligations especially welfare and entitlements. As economies grow, government revenue grows. But when growth slows as now, revenues do not keep up with payments. Even when the budget balances, entitlements may not be enough to enable a reasonable living. The max payment of social security is about $17,000. This is not a great life. If you do not have some other savings, your standard of living will go down with retirement.

The reason for this is that government does not make money. They transfer money from taxpayers to retirees and other entitlements. Ther also is an administrative cost and some fraud and corruption. When I took a hard look at payroll taxes I realized that if they were invested for a working lifetime of forty years, these payroll taxes if invested could provide 100% retirement and also pay for health insurance and unemployment insurance.

Please see the tab on Social Security for more information.

  3. Well the good news on the unemployment index droping from 8.1% to 7.8% in the latest jobs report may not be good news. An increase in government jobs caused this reduction. The increase in government employment means more deficits and or higher taxes. Some commentators claim that this was intentional to help reelect President Obama. What do you think?

  4. Turmoil in Greece again. I see this as the same issue we have on the economy. In this case it is the unions who are protesting government inability to pay promised benefits. Free market capitalism is a better idea and can provide three times the benefits by investing the workers taxes.

  5. Governments out-of-control spending and Central Banks lending the money to cover the deficits. Will the Central Bankers become the peoples master?

  6. France is implementing their version of the “Buffet Rule”. Please raise my taxes on the wealthy. France has raised income tax to 75% and capital gains tax to 65%. High end consumption and investment has plunged creating an imminent recession. It is so bad that the government is scaling back the taxes. Maybe Warren Bufffet and Bill Gates do not need the money, but the people need their investment in the economy to provide their job.

  7. The attack on the wealthy is really an attack on the money that makes our free market capitalist system work. The socialists know this and are doing it intentionally to weaken private property and increase government domination of our lives and freedom. See the writings of Karl Marx and John Maynard Keynes.

  8. Of course the new taxes in France are temporary for only two years. Let the government get used to spending it and it becomes permanent.

  9. I see the situation in France and England as similar to ours. A leftist government spends too much money resulting in the election of a center-right government ( Sarkozy). This slows the growth of government but does not reverse it. Soon the people demand more government (Hollande) to fix the problems but this just makes the economy worse. The only way to break this cycle is to reform the government programs by investing in free market capitalism. If Romney gets elected, we should demand real reforms in government programs to avoid the fate of Europe.

  10. Accepting government welfare is a permanent ticket to poverty. Look at what the “Great Society” programs of Johnson have done to the African American community and break up of Black families. I see this especially in South Seattle. The city and county council in conjunction with federal programs are not helping solve the problems of poverty and crime in the area and may be making it worse. This is an especially difficult problem that was created by government programs.

  11. President Clinton and Speaker Gingrich reformed the welfare laws trying to get people off welfare by encouraging work. President Obama has just recently eliminated this reform by an Executive Order. Shall we allow a President to override Congress by Executive Order? President Obama has said “I will act if Congress does not”. Ancient Rome ditched the Republic and gave power to the Emperor because the Senate was deadlocked on policy and they had a low approval rating. Is there an analogy with our government situation?

  12. Goldman Sachs has switched from supporting Obama to supporting Romney. Other investment banks have significantly reduced their support for Obama.

  13. IMF lowers growth forcasts worldwide. They note that central bank easing is not stopping the economic down trend. Why not try free market capitalism?

  14. Had an interview with a Newspaper that caters to the Black community. One issue was that they feel that illegal immigration is taking jobs away from them. Also discussed the pros and cons of affirmative action programs. They feel the need for it but it can have a negative response from other interest groups. They want a fair share but not to take away from other groups. I sympathise with this concept and will study it.

  15. Washington state windmill system is backed up by hydroelectric power. So when the windmills are producing power the hydro is shut down. The effect is a redundant system of windmills to hydro that gains us nothing except to say that we have windmills. Added expense without added capacity.

  16. fantastic submit, very informative. I’m wondering why the opposite experts of this sector do not notice this. You must continue your writing. I am confident, you have a great readers’ base already!

  17. Post election rumors.

Fracking will be banned by executive orders. From Wiliston, North Dakota.

Money exchange controls tightened. $10,000 per person now that you can take out of the US. Canada bank account is recommended.

Guns will be banned by UN treaty. Requires Senate approval.

  18. New home building is strong in todays report. The economy is recovering. Big business is holding off on hiring until after the election. They want to know what the rules are going to be.

  19. There are no requirements or background check for federal office or state office. I held a secret and above clearance while working in the defense industry but not required for congress or president.

  20. This really answered my problem, thanks! Get the facts Thanks for your post. One other thing is the fact that individual American states have their own personal laws that affect people, which makes it very hard for the our elected representatives to come up with the latest set of recommendations concerning home foreclosure on property owners. The problem is that each state provides own laws which may have interaction in a damaging manner when it comes to foreclosure procedures. Thanks for your article. It is extremely unfortunate that over the last decade, the travel industry has had to tackle terrorism, SARS, tsunamis, bird flu, swine flu, along with the first ever true global recession. Through everthing the industry has really proven to be effective, resilient in addition to dynamic, obtaining new solutions to deal with trouble. There are often fresh difficulties and possibilities to which the market must all over again adapt and reply. I enjoy you because of all of the effort on this web page. Kim really likes carrying out internet research and it’s really obvious why. Almost all learn all about the powerful method you deliver worthwhile tips and tricks via the web site and recommend response from other people on this article then our favorite child has always been understanding a lot. Enjoy the rest of the year. Your performing a really great job. Going Here Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone! obviously like your web-site but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I’ll definitely come back again.

  21. Dear Mr. Postma,
I’m a 42 year old single mom, am severely hearing impaired in both ears and desperately need spine surgery to correct two badly herniated disks in my neck. I already had a foraminotomy that failed and need a proceedure done at The Laser Spine Institute. I am disabled largely because of my spinal injuries and would greatly benefit from having spinal proceedures and I do have Medicare, and The Laser Sping Institute does accept Medicare, but Medicare doesn’t cover a large part of the costs. Mr. Postma, I wear hearing aids and read lips and so I’ve worked very hard to learn to hear again and have adapted, I am only 5 feet tall and 100 ponds, and 42 years old, but I am in pain day and night and know that I would greatly benefit and recover from my spinal injuries if I could find help to recieve Laser Spine Surgery. I’m confident that I would be able to go back to work if I could get that surgery and help with the cost that Medicare doesn’t cover. Mr. Postma, can you please help me find a way(s) to recieve funding to cover the spine surgery costs that Medicare doesn’t cover, please? Kindly, Graceful Being.

  22. Aw, this was a really nice post. In thought I want to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and precise effort to make a very good article… however what can I say… I procrastinate alot and certainly not seem to get something done. 23. I just heard your “inteview” on KUOW and you are so out of touch and do not have any idea what you are talking about. Can anyone imagine the mess we would be in if we had all of social security in the stock market like you suggest? Please do us a favor and drop out of the race. Your comments and thoughts are way too scary and dangerous for our country.

    • Hello Tammy. Thanks for your comment. First of all I did not say we would invest all of it in the Stock Market. That was Adam Smiths comment. Actually the wealth managers we will hire only have a fraction invested in the stock market.
You obviously are afraid of investments. Here are some examples of longer term investment. Warren Buffet started his fund in 1979 at a share price of $775. It is at $133,455 today. Agnes and Gene, two ladies from Pasadena without a high school education saved their money and invested it in annuities and other insurance programs. They left millions. Bob bought a mutual fund with $2,000 in 1950. It is worth $180,000 today.
Bill Gates started Microsoft with $20,000 and he is the worlds richest man today.
The people who scare you about investment want to put it all in Government programs that they control. Free market capititalism works. Socialism fails. Would you rather live in North Korea or Cuba or the USSR in 1990 or in the USA today?

  24. This comment could be in War and Peace or Foreign Relations also.
The fiasco in Bengazi shows how little we are prepared for the war being waged against us by our enemies. They attack us and we have to get command authority to respond. Our leaders make a political decision. It should be a military decision. If we were at war the local command would have immediately responded and wiped out the attackers. But in the current environment, our leaders had to determine the politics involved to determine their response.

  25. Mr. Postma;

1 manufacturing facility with 500 employees from senior management to maintenance can contribute $10,000 per hour ($87.6 million per year) to a local economy. This puts small businesses in a position to expand, new businesses to start and grow, local services like firefighters, police, libraries, schools are funded with local tax-dollars without increasing local or state taxes or getting more federal help by taxing the middle-class and small businesses.

With that said, since the 1990s U.S. non-food consumer product manufacturers have received free trade agreements with 20 countries, trillions of dollars in tax breaks, loopholes and subsidies to relocate offshore. Over 75% of non-food consumer products are imported by U.S. based corporations. Over 5 million Americans have lost their jobs because of these FTA’s and financial incentives.

If you’re elected, what will you do to increase the manufacturing of non-food consumer products in America?

    • My focus on free trade is to make US workers and products more competitive and not to engage in protectionism which hurts consumers with higher prices for imported products.
Improving our business climate to reduce product prices will require cooperation between labor, business and government.

  26. Fantastic beat ! I wish to apprentice whilst you amend your website,
how can i subscribe for a weblog web site? The account aided me a appropriate
deal. I have been a little bit familiar of this your broadcast
    provided brilliant clear idea

  27. The media is in a frenzy about the Fiscal Cliff. Rise Above is the slogan. There will be a lot of pressure by the media and the White House on congress to allow taxes on the rich. What do you think about taxing the rich? I see this as an attack on the wealth that creates jobs and makes the government more powerful. Is the fiscal health of the government more important than the private economy? It may depend on if you are receiving government payments which may be reduced in a government crises.

Are you part of the 47% that Romney referred to? I am receiving Social Security but I get more from investments. SS only gives $17,000 per year.

Obama meets with corporate CEOs today. Our system is beginning to look like the fascism of Europe in 1940 when the corporations and banks prospered and workers and small business lost. We call it corporate cronyism. Big business will cooperate if it gets its cut. Small business will suffer.

  28. What is the bottom line on Bengazi? The bottom line is that Obama/ Clinton did not protect the embassy and at the time of the attack the president did a stand down and went to bed. He had it live on his TV.

If we were at war with these people, he would be guilty of treason. But we are not so Obama decided to waste the ambassador for political reasons.

  29. Hey! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask.
